In addition to producing numerous peer-reviewed publications in professional journals, the Kay E. Holekamp Lab has been featured in main-stream media. Most recently, articles in the Smithsonian Magazine and New York Times have featured Holekamp and her work.

During the summer of 2008, film crews from BBC and Animal Planet are filming the work conducted in the Masai Mara by Holekamp and her MSU students.

• Smithsonian Magazine: Who's Laughing Now? by Steve Kemper. May 2008. Long maligned as nasty scavengers, hyenas turn out to be protective parents and accomplished hunters. And new research is revealing that their social status may even be determined in the womb.
