Symposium: Science for Tomorrow's Citizens and Leaders presented with Jon Miller

When: 3:30-5 p.m. Saturday, February 16

Abstract: (from AAAS)
The United States is the only nation that requires all of its college and university students to take at least one year of science courses. Recent research has shown that the United States ranks second in the proportion of adults who qualify on a test of scientific literacy. The number of college-level science courses taken is the strongest predictor of adult scientific literacy in the United States. Building on last year’s successful session on teaching college science to nonscience majors, this session focuses on efforts to build integrated science courses and programs at the college level. It also examines the assessment of student learning in these programs.

Organized by: Jon Miller, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich.; James Trefil, George Mason University, Fairfax, Va.
